Rainy Season

For three days, it's been raining.
It's rather like the morning after the weather gods went on a light beer bender: sometimes it's just a stringy stream of water, sometimes it's a punishing deluge, but it is steady, heavy, and a truly fantastic amount of water.
A flotilla of backhoes--maybe three--on pontoons tries to keep the stream clear: good luck. Bucketfulls of styrofoam and plastic garbage--at best--get scooped out and deposited on a convenient patch of ground.
Septic systems flood and back up.
This is how epidemics spread.
The locals say it's supposed to be the worst rain in 30 years. Somehow, I believe them.
And we have two more months.
